A coach company will appear in court after being charged with three counts of driving without insurance.

Manns Travel, formerly based in Norfolk Road, Gravesend, was the subject of a police investigation in March this year and went into liquidation shortly afterwards.

The firm had a fleet of 20 vehicles, including cars and minibuses, and serviced several schools in Gravesham.

Manns was given the contract to ferry hundreds of children to and from school by Kent County Council, an arrangement that has since stopped. The contract has been awarded to a new firm.

The police investigation began after a Manns coach, taking Gravesend schoolchildren on a trip to Rochester, was boarded by officers in March.

Manns Travel is due to appear in court after pleading not guilty to charges via a postal requisition.

A police spokeswoman said: “I can officially say that a Gravesend travel company has been reported to court for three counts of driving without insurance.

“A not guilty plea was entered and it has been adjourned until Thursday, October 29, at Medway Magistrates’ Court.”
