Matilda, the BFG and the Twits – for children at the Woodville Theatre for Youth, it was all things Roald Dahl.

Children aged six to 12 were given the opportunity to put on a performance incorporating the author’s work – and there was no time to gobblefunk with words, not with lines to learn.

After a full week of rehearsals at the Gravesend theatre, the children’s hard work was rewarded with a performance to friends and family.

The workshops and play were devised by Claire Goatham, education and outreach coordinator for the Woodville.

She said: “The children were excellent, learning drama and acting skills and having fun.

“They all learned their lines and put in 100% effort. The show was great and I’m really proud of them.”

The workshops, sponsored by Grove House Orthodontics, in Grove Road, Northfleet, were designed to increase confidence and teach life skills.

A summer workshop is planned for the week of July 28 and will include improvisation, physical theatre and stage combat.

A new group for youngsters over 13, Woodville Youth Pro, also starts with a two-week workshop from August 18.
