Ebbsfleet manager Liam Daish chasing a new striker ahead of Blue Square Premier trip to York

Liam Daish hopes to have added a striker to his goal-shy squad before Ebbsfleet return to Blue Square Premier action at play-off hopefuls York on Saturday.

Fleet have only scored one goal in their last eight games and have lost five away matches in a row without finding the net.

With no FA Cup game last weekend, Ebbsfleet manager Daish used the two-week break to put his players through their paces and also went scouting for forwards as Scott Ginty and Magno Vieria are his only recognised senior strikers.

"The weekend went okay," said Daish. "The players all worked hard.

"We had a sort of mini pre-season and I took in some other games, looking at players. I have watched more games this week.

"It is tough. The sort of players you want are in other clubs’ first teams. We want a goalscorer but clubs who have them don’t want to let them go."

One player linked with a move to Stonebridge Road is Gillingham striker Andy Pugh (pictured), who has been on loan at Blue Square South front-runners Dover.

Daish added: "I am aware of Andy Pugh and his situation. There are a few possibles at the moment. Hopefully we will have someone in before the weekend.

"We want to make sure we get the right one. I’m still looking for a replacement for Michael Gash.

"I want a physical presence, someone to get on the end of crosses. At this level you need pace or a physical presence if you are going to cause problems.

"I am hopeful but it will happen when it happens. It is not like a shop, there are not players just sitting there on a shelf for you to come in and take away."

The Fleet have received more than £6,000 in donations to help fund a three-month loan move for a forward.

Fleet will be without defender Leon Crooks, who is suspended after his red card against Wrexham.
