Ebbsfleet manager Liam Daish's playing budget is still no clearer

Ebbsfleet boss Liam Daish is still waiting for an improved playing budget after Darius Charles and Michael Gash's double transfer to York for £80,000 fell through.

The move would have seen Daish’s playing budget reach £6,250 a week but that figure now looks a long way off after Charles pulled out of the move due to personal reasons.

Gash, who has already been the subject of an individual bid from York believed to be in the region of £40,000, is likely to be the subject of another offer.

The collapse of the double transfer follows the news that Setanta’s administration will cost the Fleet at least £60,000 a year in broadcast fees that they will no longer receive.

"It was down to the players," said Daish. "Darius didn’t feel the move was for him and the whole deal was a package.

"Things are at a delicate stage and everything is on hold. They are our players and contracted to us, it will stay that way until anything changes.

"Darius had to move away from London and there’s a personal side to it.

"When I spoke to him when he was on holiday, I told him that he had to do what was right for him and after much deliberation he is not totally confident that it was."

Charles was unsure about moving away from London as his girlfriend is pregnant and it would appear that York have already moved on to their next defensive target, after signing Alan O’Hare from Mansfield hours after the Fleet defender rejected the move.
