Crews called to fire in Wallis Park, Northfleet, at derelict community centre

Firefighters were battling a blaze at a derelict community centre this morning after a pile of rubbish was set alight.

Crews were called just before midnight yesterday to the site in Wallis Park, Northfleet, near Gravesend.

Two fire engines attended and used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to extinguish the flames, before using a high pressured fan to clear the area for smoke.

No casualties were reported and it's believed the small pile of rubbish was set alight deliberately.

The fire service left the scene just before 1am.
