Firefighters were called to three separate incidents just hours after the UK declared its hottest day of the year.

With temperatures topping more than 30C across the county, Kent Fire and Rescue attended a site in Valley Drive, Gravesend when a BBQ became engulfed in flames overnight.

The blaze happened shortly before 4am today (July 20) and spread to garden furniture.

Kent Fire and Rescue sent two fire engines to the scene with crews using hose reel jets to extinguish the inferno.

It is believed the fire, put out 35 minutes later, was started accidentally due to an unattended disposable BBQ.

No injuries were reported.

It happened just two hours after firefighters were called to a cabin alight in Mote Road, Maidstone shortly before 1.30am.

Two fire engines attended, with firefighters reporting no injuries and the cause unknown.

Meanwhile, crews put out flames from a car following a fire in Hoo, Rochester yesterday evening (July 19).

The blaze was extinguished around 50 minutes later.
