Fireworks in Gravesend: displays at the riverside and for Diwali

The skies above Gravesend were lit up last night as many celebrated Diwali.

Fireworks were let off above the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara.

Diwali is a five-day Festival of Lights and a celebration of the triumph of good over evil.

This year it took place between November 2-6, with the most important day of the festival falling on November 4.

Diwali is celebrated across the world by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, but for different reasons.

Last night's fireworks was the first of three nights of displays in the town.

Gravesham council's free display will be taking place tonight (Friday, November 5), at the Riverside Leisure Area in Gravesend.

And tomorrow night, the Three Daws pub at Town Pier, Gravesend, will be holding its display.

There is a barbecue from 6pm and fireworks at 8.30pm. Children are welcome until 10pm.

Also tomorrow night is Dartford Lion's Club's fireworks display at Central Park, Dartford.

Gates open at 5pm when the fun fair begins. The bonfire will be lit at 7.15pm and the fireworks will start at 8pm.

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £3 for children. It costs 99p for ticket delivery, or they can be collected in person from Priory Shopping Centre until November 6, between 10am and 2pm.
