Riverside paths are flooded in Gravesend and water is continuing to rise amidst warnings of a tidal surge this afternoon.

The Environment Agency has issued flood alerts from Dartford to Allhallows, as strong westerly winds combine with the high tide to create a tidal surge.

Water levels are expected to overtop coastal defences and foreshores between 1pm and 2.30pm today, and low lying areas near the coast are at risk of flooding.

People are advised to stay away from risk areas and take care next to the coast.

There is also a flood alert expected in areas of Strood on the River Medway, according the agency.

Property flooding is not expected, but the Environment Agency will issue flood warnings if required to do so.

The Tilbury Ferry said the tidal surge could result in cancellations should the flood gate at Town Pier close.
