An online fundraiser to help a disabled pensioner replace his stolen mobility scooter is almost halfway to its target.

A JustGiving page was set up last week after the Messenger reported the theft of Kenneth Godbold’s scooter, which was taken from opposite his home in Apsledene, Gravesend, on Monday, November 14.

Mr Godbold, 80, who has had operations on both hips and wears a pacemaker, bought it in June at a cost of £450 and cannot afford another.

One generous local family gifted him a temporary replacement, but it has proven unsuitable for his needs and cannot be charged in the garage where he stored his previous scooter.

Mr Godbold has lived in Apsledene with wife Mavis, 78, since 2010, and had not experienced any crime until the theft.

Police have been out to the scene three times, interviewing neighbours and taking fingerprint samples from the garage, but no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 01474 366149 quoting reference XY/044602/16.

The online fundraiser to help Mr Godbold has raised £220 of its £500 target.

You can find it at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/steve-hufton.
