A competition has been launched to capture ideas which could shape the future for a large scale development.

Ebbsfleet Garden City’s healthy new towns programme have introduced The Landscape Challenge which aims to inspires landscape architects to collaborate with creative individuals, students, artists, engineers and architects.

The programme aims to generate ideas which work with the landscape and transforms the area.

Prizes ranging from £500 to £5,000 will be on offer through two stages of the competition up to the final, with ideas forming part of an exhibition later in the year.

The contest will be run by the Landscape Institute and the panel of judges includes Michael Cassidy CBE, Chairman of Ebbsfleet Development Corporation, Lord Matthew Taylor, who has advised successive governments on planning and housing policy for over a decade and Kate Henderson, Chief Executive of the Town and Country Planning Association and Tony Pidgley CBE, Chairman of the Berkeley Group.

The winner will be announced in September and could also be built.

Entries will be judged on their potential to shape the whole city, rather than just one site, and for their imagination and creativity in overcoming physical barriers to create a garden city for everyone.

Michael Cassidy, Chairman of Ebbsfleet Development Corporation, who partner Dartford Gravesham and Swanley Clinical Commissioning, said: “Ebbsfleet Garden City’s landscape with its white chalk cliffs, open, green spaces and lakes provides us with a unique opportunity to provide a landscape that challenges the norm.

“Healthy living is also a great motivation for people and people taking part will be challenged to be as creative as they can to use the Garden City’s existing landscape to its full potential.”

The Ebbsfleet scheme is the largest project in the national programme with up to 15,000 new homes and 30,000 new jobs served by seven city parks.
