Gravesend Rugby Club lacking creativity in defeat to Hertford

Gravesend produced an uninspiring display at Hertford on Saturday and returned with only a losing bonus point to show for their efforts.

A poor game between two limited sides contained very little inspiration or creativity. The Gs have now suffered back-to-back defeats in National 3 London & South East, following their 34-32 reverse at home to Old Elthamians.

Hertford scored the first try of the afternoon through their number eight, Torran McDougal, who stood out as the home side’s best player. Stuart Smart kicked the conversion.

A Chris Meddings penalty was Gravesend’s sole response in the first half, although when he converted a try by his brother Will Meddings after the interval, the visitors led 10-7.

Smart slotted a penalty to level the scores, though, before Jack Long touched down to win the game for Hertford and leave the Gs with plenty of food for thought.

This weekend, Gravesend host Kent rivals Westcombe Park.
