People in Gravesham joined others across the nation and fell silent in remembrance of the nation’s war dead on Armistice Day.

While there were no organised services, limited numbers of people were allowed to lay wreaths at memorials or to pay their respects.

Gravesham Mayor Cllr John Caller joined a few others in Community Square, Gravesend, at 11am to observe two minutes' silence.

Veterans also gathered at the Merchant Navy memorial in Bawley Bay, Anchor Cove, in Royal Pier Road, Gravesend.

People nationally were encouraged to pause on their doorsteps or by windows for the traditional two minutes' silence at 11am.

National commemorations were also scaled back due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but an invitation-only service due to be held at London’s Westminster Abbey today will mark the centenary of the burial of the Unknown Warrior.

The televised service, to be attended by the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, will commemorate the funeral of an unknown British serviceman whose body was brought back from Northern France.
