Respects were paid to our Fallen this week, with online tributes available so people could still take time to remember but stay safe at home.

Remembrance Sunday wasn’t the same as in previous years but in Gravesham, the Mayor visited various locations last week to lay a poppy wreath to remember those who gave their tomorrow for our today.

The visits were filmed and released in a video on Remembrance Sunday.

Although there was no official service, many still did turn up at war memorials around the borough to pay their respects, while observing social distancing rules.

Several turned up at the war memorial at Windmill Hill Gardens, Clarence Place, Gravesend, to observe two minutes' silence.

However, many more stayed at home, choosing to stand on their doorstep at 11am.

Government advice was that services should be outdoors, short and focused on wreath laying, with a reduced march past or parade only if social distancing could be maintained. Buglers could perform as could small military bands.

However, it was advised to keep numbers to a minimum, focusing attendance on those wishing to lay wreaths with reasonable steps taken to minimise wider public viewing. People could only attend an event with their own household or those in their support bubble, or individually with one other person from outside their household.

The town's iconic Clock Tower was also turned red for Remembrance after successful efforts to repair vandalised lights.

Floodlights at the bottom of the tower in Milton Road were smashed last week and the lighting-up tribute was called off.

But they were back in action by the end of Friday after businesses rallied round to make the repairs.

Other tributes have included giant poppies on display around the borough.

The colourful creations were made by Gravesham council’s horticultural team at various locations around the town including the historic Fort Gardens.
