A group reported being threatened at knifepoint during an attempted robbery in a town centre.

Police have now charged a man following the alleged incident in Gravesend when four people were targeted in the High Street late at night.

Patrick Toop, of Princes Street, Gravesend, appeared in court and will now stand before a judge accused of five offences.

The 39-year-old was arrested by officers following reports a man had tried to rob four people in the town at about 11pm on August 18.

It is alleged the man approached the group, brandished a knife and threatened them before walking away.

Toop appeared before Medway Magistrates' Court on August 22 charged with four counts of attempted robbery and one charge of possession of a knife in a public place following a police investigation.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Woolwich Crown Court on September 21.
