"It is a really nice thing to hear and it is really lifting because he was just that, a gentleman.

"It's massive loss to the company, his friends and family. His death has left a massive hole and life will be different without him."

Tony joined Babco, which manage and launch alcohol drink brands, at its inception in 2000, following on from a career that saw him make a huge impact on all sides of the drinks business.

He started out in the drinks trade as a beer, wine and spirits buyer at Sainsburys in 1973 and went on to work for Victoria Wine and Greenall's in Warrington.

He was responsible for launching Oranjeboom Dutch lager in the UK.

During his 21 years as commercial director with Babco, Tony led on key business areas, focussing on operations and product development.

He was pivotal in the management of all Babco brands, with some reaching the production of over three million litres a year.

"He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and worked with him."

Founder and managing director of Babco, Chris Bowen, said: "A true drinks veteran, Tony was an inspiring leader, a great friend, and a key part of the Babco family.
