The executive head teacher at St George's School in Gravesend had already closed the secondary phase of the school to all but Year groups 7 and 10 earlier this week.

Now he has gone further and is shutting the entire secondary phase and six form to all years, from 7 to 13, from tomorrow (Thursday) for two weeks.

The school in Meadow Road will remain open to vulnerable children and the offspring of key workers.

Stephen Carey told parents the "very difficult decision" had been taken because of a still growing number of cases in both students and staff.

Online lessons will be provided instead.

The primary phase of the school which is on a different site in Westcott Avenue remains open.
