HMV has reopened one of its stores after being taken over by Canadian company Sunrise Records.

The firm helped save more than 1,400 jobs after buying 100 of the chain's 127 stores, after it went into administration.

Bluewater's music retailer was one of two in Kent, including Tunbridge Wells, that were to shut down.

But the shopping centre's store, in Greenhithe, welcomed back customers yesterday after closing last week.

The company successfully renegotiated a lease at their previous site and are hoping to follow suit with some of the other stores that were closed.

Bluewater was reopened alongside retailers in Glasgow and Bath this week.

A tweet from HMV's social media page said: "We're very pleased to announce that our @hmvBluewater store is back open, head on over and say hi!"

The remaining 27 stores of the chain will close, resulting in 455 redundancies.

Spokesman for HMV Simon Winter said: "We're really pleased for everyone including the staff and customers and our future with the new owner."
