A multi-million-pound regeneration project is still on track despite no sign of work on the site for four months.

Construction on The Charter development in Gravesend town centre originally stopped in June when the then-contractor Henry Construction collapsed into administration.

The project is being led by Reef Group for Rosherville Ltd – the council's commercial trading company which was formed in 2020.

When the project, which will see 242 build-to-rent apartments and a new multi-storey car park built, came to a halt both firms started looking to get it back on track.

By the end of August, initial preparations had been started on site by construction firm Statom Group.

However, rumours surrounding the development’s future have since been rife within the community as many said they had not seen workmen on site since at least November.

A spokesman for Rosherville Ltd has now offered reassurance that The Charter is still on track.

Work is expected to restart in the spring

He added: “The initial works our new contractor had to carry out after taking over the site have now been completed and they are getting ready to start the main construction work.”

Work is expected to restart on the build this spring.

The Charter, which is divided between plots on the former Market Square and Horn Yard car parks, was granted planning permission in 2020 with work beginning in March 2021.

The town centre development is a key part of the council's master plan to breathe new life into the area.
