Gravesend's The Woodville marks 50th birthday with events and competitions

An iconic multi-purpose theatre is to mark its 50 anniversary with an array of birthday celebrations.
Free cinema and theatre tickets for 50 lucky babies for 18 years, a chance to have vows renewed and Willy Wonka styled golden tickets are among the prizes that are up for offer as Gravesend’s The Woodville commemorate its milestone.
The venue, which was officially opened in November 1968 by Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Kent, was designed by architects H.T Cadbury-Brown and Partners.
In the intervening years the Blake Gallery, the Paul Greengrass Cinema and Studio Theatre have all been added to the range of opportunities that exist within the building on Community Square.
Genesis, Supertramp, Status Quo, 10CC, Jimmy Carr, Alan Carr, Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee, are just some of the faces the theatre has welcomed during its 50 years.
Theatre Manager, Mandy Hare, said: “I am proud to be the manager of such a wonderful venue and am looking forward to celebrating all things Woodville this year.
“There will be a year of events and parties alongside our usual varied programme so that all our patrons and partners can join us marking our half century.
“Woodville Babies is just one of our exciting projects.
“We will be offering an amazing opportunity for 50 babies, born locally in 2018, to have free unlimited access to the cinema and any show at The Woodville up until they are 18 years old.
“Another competition to keep an eye out for is an opportunity for one lucky couple to win a competition to have their vows renewed at the Woodville for free.
"In true Willy Wonka style there will be Golden tickets on selected shows.
“These tickets will be hidden underneath specific seats and the lucky winners can expect some really special prizes, from drinks at the bar to free tickets to other shows and events.
“There may even be opportunities to win a meet and greet with a favourite star when they visit Gravesend.
"If you have any stories to tell us about your memories at The Woodville we would love to hear them.
“We'd also love to hear from Gravesham residents that are celebrating their 50th birthday or an anniversary; we might have some special surprises for you too."
