Pictures have been released of refurbishment at a recycling centre that was destroyed in a blaze.

Pepperhill tip went up in flames on April 21, and has been closed ever since.

Refurbishment has been on going since the incident, and images from Kent County Council have showed the progress that has been made, with the site due to open in August.

A spokesman for KCC said: "Work is progressing well to decontaminate the site although the contractor has had to undertake more cleaning than originally expected.

“Test results have now concluded which detail the wider extent of the damage.

"It is now confirmed that it will be necessary to remove and renew sections of the roof area to the main building at a later date.

“This work will be extensive and completed over several months and will be carefully planned with KCC to minimise any disruption by avoiding a full closure if possible.

“The scheduling of these works is at the planning stage and further updates will be provided when the plan is defined.

“The site is due to open in August. We would like to thank people for their patience and understanding at this challenging time.

“In a bid to help residents, the opening hours at Swanley, Dartford and Tovil have been extended on Wednesday until 6.30pm and Thursday until 6pm.
