A grandmother has been left wanting to move house after a thief broke into her garden just days after she got back from holiday.

Sharon Scott, 54, of Perry Street, Gravesend, was left shocked and scared after CCTV showed a hooded person breaking into her garden in the early hours of the morning.

The suspect was seen walking down the side of the house, before peering into her windows and trying to open a door.

A water fountain, lantern and meerkat gnome were taken during the break-in.

Now she is hoping to move house after the second incident this year that has left her "in a state of shock".

Earlier this year the garden centre worker made national news after footage showed workers from Papa Johns restaurants, who were her neighbours, throwing chicken carcasses over the fence into her garden after "weeks of harassment" from the staff.

Her daughter, Lou Smith, of Allens Mead, said her mum was left feeling suicidal after the incidents.

The 31-year-old said: "It was a kick in the teeth for her to see, she was in such a shock to see someone in her private space like that.

"She's in a state of shock and I've had to tell her to go back to the doctors to get medication for her anxiety.

"He spent quite a while in the garden. She wants to move house now because she doesn't feel safe at all. She's not been happy here for a long time. I'm concerned for her safety as well.

"To come back to someone being in your personal space isn't nice for anyone.

"I was really shocked when I actually saw it. I'm just worried about it playing on her mind now."

The break0-in happened on Wednesday, November 21.

Police spokesman Vicki Foster said: "Police received a report of an ornament being stolen from a garden in Perry Street, Gravesend, at around 6.20am.

"Inquiries into the incident are ongoing."

Ms Smith carried on to say her mother's hours at the garden centre had recently changed and her normal hours would have seen her come face to face with person who was caught on CCTV.

The carer admitted her mum was left with anxiety after the incident with Papa John's staff in August and was left "left wanting to end her life after the harassment".

Papa John's spokesman Sarah Bridges said: "The franchisee has confirmed these claims have been investigated, addressed and resolved.”
