An investigation is under way after a Longfield woman was sexually assaulted on a train.

The 46-year-old was travelling just after 8pm when the assault took place onboard the train between Sittingbourne and Rainham.

It happened on Wednesday, May 3, but police have only just released the information.

The attacker, who had been drinking heavily, tried to strike up a conversation before attempting to kiss her. When the victim pulled away he touched her indecently and got off the train at Rainham.

The victim continued home to Longfield before reporting it to police.

Detectives said they followed a number of enquiries, including circulating the images on police intelligence systems and to local policing teams, but to no avail.

Detective Constable Bob Gee, investigating the assault, said: “The man’s actions were completely unacceptable.

“Although incidents like this are rare on the rail network, this was clearly a very frightening and upsetting ordeal for the victim and we’ll do all we can to arrest the person responsible.

“As part of our investigation we’ve issued CCTV of a man we want to speak to in connection with this incident and are asking for the public’s help to name him. If you think you recognise this man, please contact us.”
