Fans from across the globe will support their national side and be urging them on to victory.

But there’s another World Cup you’re probably not aware of, and one footballer from Gravesend has played his part.

Camen Bhandal, 24, plays for Punjab United Football Club. The team recently won the league title and earned promotion to the Premier Division of the South Counties East Football league.

The personal trainer and IT technician represented his country, Panjab, at the CONIFA World Cup.

Founded in 2013, the non-profit organisation held its first World Cup in June 2014 and its most recent tournament just finished on Saturday.

Camen plays for Gravesend side Pubjab United F.C. (2480830)

Camen made it to the quarter finals with Panjab and thinks he’ll benefit from the experience.

He said: “I went in to the World Cup really confident and on a high. Panjab FA have had a few big friendlies recently, playing against the likes of Liverpool under 23s and we have given a really good account of ourselves.

“Having reached the quarter finals versus Padania in the World Cup it was a shame we couldn’t progress further.

However, we weren’t good enough on the day and the better team won.

The midfielder represented Panjab six times prior to the tournament and has played against the likes of Liverpool and Leicester’s academies.
