Since 2015, Gravesham council has been run by the Conservative Party, although the authority was split last year when leader David Turner broke away with a group of allies to form the Gravesham Independent Conservatives.

Alongside the district council elections, there were also two Kent County Council by-elections fought - one in Gravesham and one in Swale. The result of Gravesham's is in and it's a former council leader who has won it. It may end up being a day to remember for John Burden, who is hoping he may also end up being the borough council's leader again before the day is out.
