Crews tackle New Ash Green garage fire after 'loud explosion'

Firefighters were called to two garage fires this morning.

Crews headed to New Ash Green at around 6am to reports of an early morning blaze.

Residents recalled hearing an 'explosion' this morning, with the bang being heard in Meopham and Hartley.

Spokesman for the fire service Kirsty Gearey said: "We were called to a fire in two garages in Caling Croft in New Ash Green near Longfield.

"Two fire engines attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet and water from a hydrant to put the fire out.

"There were no reported injuries and the cause isn’t yet known."

The fire started at 5.55am and was put out just after 9am.
