A man has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of his girlfriend's three-year-old son.

Stephen Waterson was due to face a retrial after the death of Alfie Lamb, who was crushed by a car seat.

But the 26-year-old changed his plea when he appeared at the Old Bailey today.

The child's mum Adrian Hoare, a former Northfleet School for Girls pupil, who has lived in Gravesend and Chatham, was earlier jailed for two years and nine months for child cruelty.

Alfie died in hospital three days after suffering catastrophic brain damage when Waterson crushed him in the footwell of his Audi in February 2018.

Waterson was facing retrial because a jury had been unable to reach a verdict on the manslaughter charge facing him.

He was earlier found guilty of intimidating a witness, having previously admitted conspiracy to pervert the course of justice after lying to police about the incident.

Hoare was convicted of child cruelty but cleared of manslaughter.

Her mother Janis Templeton-Hoare earlier said her daughter should spend life in prison for the crime.
