A man who died on train tracks after climbing over an embankment did not intend to take his life.

Marian Stoica, of Covesfield in Gravesend, is thought to have had one beer at home before leaving for a party at a friend's house at about 9pm on Saturday, April 6.

The 23-year-old left the party between 2am and 3am the following day, it was revealed at a short hearing at Archbishop's Palace in Maidstone today.

He was later seen in the High Street and told friends he was going to try to get into a nightclub.

A witness said he was then spotted at about 5am on Sunday, April 7, climbing down an embankment near Gravesend railway station when he appeared to lose his footing.

Witnesses said he appeared unsteady before falling.

He fell about 15ft onto live tracks before being hit by a train.

A post-mortem carried out which found he had multiple injuries.

British Transport Police coroner's inquest co-ordinator, Abigail Lewis, said: "He appeared drunk and lost his footing.

"Marian had no known mental or physical health problems, he was in a relationship.

"It is not clear why he climbed up to the embankment but he appeared disoriented."

Senior coroner Roger Hatch said Mr Stocia's death was accidental.
