A man is due to appear in court accused of "smashing up" a railway station office and threatening staff after missing the last train.

Police were called to Gravesend railway station in the early hours of Wednesday.

Officers allege the man had caused damage to the station property and had become abusive towards staff and police.

A man was arrested and has been accused of carrying out four offences – criminal damage and three counts of breaching public order – and is alleged to have caused damage to the station office.

A tweet from Kent Police Gravesham said: "Male arrested for smashing up Gravesend Railway Station and threatening staff all because he missed the last train home. Another one who threatened and fought police because apparently it’s all our fault."

He was taken into custody where officers from British Transport Police questioned him on Wednesday before charging him.

Matthew Kattner, 30, of Castle Street, Greenhithe, has been charged with criminal damage to property valued under £5000 and three counts of using threatening, abusive or insulting words and behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence.

He will appear at Maidstone Magistrates' Court on July 27.
