A thug who repeatedly ran over a woman has been jailed for 10 years.

Patrick Molloy, of Spinrghead Road, Northfleet, intentionally used his car to knock the woman down before reversing over her body twice as she lay injured in May last year.

He pleaded not guilty to her attempted murder.

Following a three week trial at Woolwich Crown Court, the 29-year-old was found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent and criminal damage and was sentenced today.

The court heard how Molloy, who was known to the victim, drove to a caravan site in Dering Way, Gravesend, and threatened a number of people on the site.

The victim stepped out of her property and was knocked over by Molloy who then reversed his car into her.

As a result the woman hit her head on the ground and the car then rolled over her body.

Molloy then repositioned the car and used it to reverse over the woman's body for a second time.

The assault left her with a cut on the back of her heard and she had to be airlifted to a London hospital for treatment, with what was thought to be serious head and neck injuries.

The victim has since recovered from her injuries.

After driving away from the scene Molloy abandoned the car, which was found torched the later that morning.

Officers then managed to track him down in Springhead road at 10.50am the same day where he was arrested.

Detective Constable Nicolas Baxter, the investigating officer for this case, said: "Patrick Molloy showed extreme and uncontrollable levels of violence against a victim who he knew had no chance of defending herself.

"The prolonged and repetitive nature of this assault shows he was intent on causing serious harm to the victim.

"I am pleased that we have managed to secure a significant custodial sentence for Molly, who is now unable to cause further harm to innocent members of the public."

Molloy was previously jailed in 2016 for spraying bleach in a mechanic's eyes.
