Protestors campaigning for Brexit have been catching drivers' attention with a banner over the A2 urging motorists to "Toot to Leave".

Two people can be seen waving next to the flag in Brewers Road, near Thong, which passes over the motorway between Strood and Gravesend.

One motorist informed Kent Highways of the banner that "could distract" drivers.

Highways England said it was aware of the Brexit protest and said Kent Police have also been informed.

Twitter user @DCMarvelQueen said: "Hi there, I was travelling between Strood and Bluewater on the A2 and noticed that people have hung a banner over one of the bridges on route that could cause a distraction to other drivers.

"I wasn’t sure how to report it on the website and I’m about to start work."

Highways England responded: "We are aware of this as are @kent_police it is a Brexit protest, the banner reads Toot to Leave.

"There are also 2 people with it and flags. It's on Brewers Road over the A2 at Cobham Interchange."

Police have been contacted for further information.
