A new cafe has opened in a former American-themed diner after a makeover.
The Windmill Diner, in Gravesend town centre, welcomed its first customers last week.
New owner Lindsey West said: “It was really hard work. It was a labour of love for us all to get it open.
“I am completely new to this operation. I am an estate agent so this is completely different.
“I love the estate agent work but I felt I wanted something to run alongside it that was different but it seems to be working really well.”
The diner, which has opened in the former Oxley’s Kitchen, in Windmill Street, has had a complete transformation from bright red to a black and white colour scheme.
The 42-year-old added: “It looks quite different, everything is new. We wanted to create an environment that felt comfortable.
“It looks a bit more expensive but that does not mean we are going away from home-cooked food and cafe prices.”
The Windmill Diner is serving burgers, hotdogs, loaded fries, steaks, breakfasts, sandwiches and Sunday roasts.
It opened earlier this month and has already received glowing feedback.
“People are really enjoying the food,” Lindsey said. “It has all been very positive and the steaks are going down well especially.
“We have a really fantastic chef – she is the glue that is holding us all together.”
The cafe is open seven days a week from 8am to 5pm.
