Developers have applied to convert a former office building into flats.
The application from Xenia Developments Ltd would see the building at 196 and 197 Parrock Street, in Gravesend, converted into four one-bedroom apartments and one two-bed apartment.

The early 19th Century building was built alongside 195 Parrock Street as a pair of houses, and work is already under way after permission was granted to convert 195 into flats.

Although designed and built as a house, the building is currently designated for business use, but has not been occupied for some years.

"We are committed to making this a development we can be proud of," said developers, in a planning statement. "We have conducted an in-depth exploration of all possible options for the use of the building; and believe that the removal of the staircase to the basement, and division of the rear rooms on the second and third floors, without any irreversible or structural alterations, are more than compensated by the reinstatement of the basement bay window, wall and wrought iron railings to the front.

"We are confident that our proposals will achieve, not only the best possible use and layout within the constraints of the building, but also a valuable and permanent contribution to the character of Gravesend."
