Meopham School has been rated “outstanding” by Ofsted thanks to the “exceptional progress” made by pupils.

Inspectors praised both “inspirational” teaching and pupils’ “exemplary” behaviour.

The secondary school in Wrotham Road, Meopham, has been run by the Swale Academies Trust since 2013.

The report said: “School leaders, supported by the trust, have worked tirelessly to establish an exceptional team of staff who share leaders’ vision for excellence.

“Everyone knows they are there to create successful futures for their pupils.”

The report, which has not yet been published online, follows an inspection at the end of January.

It picked up on the school’s strong safeguarding culture, high standards in core subjects, and provision for pupils with disadvantaged backgrounds or special educational needs.

It comes after the official 2018 GCSE results tables awarded Meopham School the highest progress score of any non-grammar school in Gravesham and Dartford.

Headteacher Suzanne Dickinson said: “We are thrilled with the outcome of our inspection.

“Staff and students have worked incredibly hard to create an exceptional learning environment in which everyone can thrive, both academically and in the development of character.”
