Children placed pebbles painted with poppies as their own tribute on Remembrance Day.

Pupils at Wrotham Road Primary School in Gravesend have been learning about their local history, and Year 2 children walked to St Andrew's Gardens to see the statue commemorating Squadron Leader Mahinder Singh Pujji and all those who served alongside Britain.

The children had painted poppies on pebbles, which they laid down by the statue, in honour of all those who served in the war.

Sqn Ldr Pujji, from Gravesend, was an Indian-born RAF fighter and one of the first Sikh pilots during the Second World War.

His bravery earned him the Distinguished Flying Cross.

A memorial service honouring Sikhs who have fought and continue to serve in the Armed Forces was held there in September.

Respects were also paid in Community Square at 11am.

Veterans gathered outside the Civic Centre in Gravesend for a short ceremony, attended by Gravesham mayor, Cllr Lyn Milner.
