Police helicopter called to help find suspects after Gravesend CEX store robbery

A pair of suspected burglars found hiding under a bridge after attempting to flee police on railway tracks have been arrested.

The police helicopter was called to help officers after a sledgehammer was reportedly used to break into the CEX store in Gravesend in the early hours of Monday.

Police said about 100 mobile phones and tablets were recovered after allegedly being taken from the shop in the Thamesgate Shopping Centre between 3.53am and 4.47am.

A search of the area was carried out and two men in their 30s were found.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said the alleged offenders had jumped on to tracks near Gravesend station and Southeastern staff called in officers.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and remain in custody.
