A rapist who “dominated, intimidated and humiliated” his victim has been jailed for 11 years.

Ross Gee remained in denial despite a jury at Maidstone Crown Court convicting him last month of two offences of rape and one of assault.

A judge told the 27-year-old, of Tyler Close, Northfleet, that he exercised his power and strength and took advantage of the woman’s frailty.

“You reinforced your demands by holding a knife to her cheek,” he said. “Not surprisingly, she was terrified.”

Judge David Griffith-Jones QC said the victim went to some lengths to try to placate Gee but he was “not done”.

There was further domination and humiliation by Gee forcing the woman to perform a sex act on him. She feared a beating if she refused.

She tried to escape but he followed her and raped her. “Again, she felt powerless to resist,” said the judge. “She submitted, rather than be physically injured.”

She later reported the attack to the police. When officers went to Gee’s home they found him in the loft with a rope around his neck and his feet dangling down the hatch.

When arrested, he claimed the woman had initiated sex.

A probation reported suggested Gee showed a lack of empathy by continuing to deny the offences.

Charlotte Newell, defending, said Gee had a history of depression and suicidal tendencies.

“There is a change in his attitude,” she said. “He is still young. He has a strong work ethic.”

Passing sentence on Monday, Judge Griffith-Jones told Gee: “Your behaviour towards her, during which you bullied, assaulted and raped her twice, was quite disgraceful.

“You were intent on securing sexual gratification and achieving domination and humiliation. The effect on her is likely to be profound and enduring.”

The victim told in a statement of having nightmares and flashbacks.

“It is evident her life has been turned upside down after you committed this awful offence,” the judge added. “Sadly, you remain in denial.

“You have entrenched and distorted beliefs and attitudes towards women. In the circumstances you could have no complaint if I treated you as a dangerous offender and imposed an extended sentence.”

The case was heard at Maidstone Crown Court

Gee’s name will appear on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely and he will be barred form working with children and vulnerable adults.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Natalie Collin said: "Ross Gee is a violent man who viciously attacked and raped a woman but refused to accept responsibility for his actions.

"I am very pleased with the lengthy prison sentence he will now serve. He is a danger to women and belongs behind bars.

"I would like to pay tribute to Gee’s victim, who showed great courage in speaking about her ordeal in order to aid the investigation.

"Kent Police will always take seriously and investigate any allegations of sexual assault, and victims can rest assured they will be treated with care, sensitivity and compassion."
