Final nominations for Kent Charity Awards 2019 are in

The final nominations for the Kent Charity Awards 2019 are in.

They include the county's unsung heroes, plus organisations dedicated to helping others.

Finalists will be invited to a gala evening at Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone, on Saturday, June 13, to celebrate their work.

Entries have been received from Canterbury's Books2Africa; Sevenoak Kenya Education Trust, Kemsing; Swale Action to End Domestic Abuse (SATEDA); Demelza House Children's Hospice, Sittingbourne; Fresh Vision, which supports young people in Kent; social action charity Imago; and Brogdale Collections, which gives the public access to the National Fruit Collection, near Faversham.

Other entrants include Down's syndrome charity, 21Together; Thirtyone:eight, Swanley, which helps organisations protect vulnerable people from abuse; Ashford's Find a Voice; Alzheimer's and Dementia Support Services in Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley; St George's Childcare, Tunbridge Wells; Sevenoaks' Friends for Families; Caring All Together on Romney Marsh, which aims to reduce social isolation in older people; and Aylesford's Digital Pipeline, which provides computer equipment to the developing world.

Also in the running are the Kent Agricultural Service, the East Kent Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society, The Music Man Project, Medway Asthma Self Help (MASH), TEAL Equine in Edenbridge, Life and South Youth Works in Tunbridge Wells, mental health charity Maidstone and Mid-Kent MIND, Medway's Friends of Chernobyl's Children, Dartford's Gateway Ministries, and Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey, a secondary school for children with low expectations and lack of self belief.

Also in for a chance to win are ThinkForward, which helps young people from education into employment; bereavement programme Holding On and Letting Go, Rochester; mental health charity Crossways Community, Tunbridge Wells; and Canterbury's D'Vine Singers, which explores the benefits of singing to improve mental health.

Nominated trustees include Patricia Frost, of The Thursday Club, Gravesend; David Debenham, of the Sevenoak Kenya Education Trust; Shona Campbell, of Friends for Families; John Richardson, from the Hilltop Community Association in Canterbury; and Paul Haines, of Nourish Community Foodbank, Tunbridge Wells.

Nominated volunteers include Tim Dobbs, of Cancer Research UK; Anna Kelly, of The Net Community Hub, Chatham; Pam Penfold, from Medway, of Breast Cancer Care; Jill Norton, Ally Crosby-Cowley and Haley Lucas from the Young Lives Foundation, Maidstone; Sarah Mann, of the Music Man Project; Ellie Robinson and Sandra Cornwell, from parent and toddler group Fleetdown Open House, Dartford; Porchlight's Outreach Team in Canterbury; Michael Ola Adewunmi, volunteer athletics coach for Dartford Harriers; Ruth Pascoe, of the North Deal Community Company; Emma Bunyard, of ThinkForward - nominated for her work growing the programme in Kent; Diane Starkey, Peter Kelly, Amal Garnham, Ivy Hutchins and Steve Mitchell, of Kent Association for the Blind; and Rani Khamba, of HOPE, Dartford.
