Firefighters spent nearly three hours fighting a rubbish fire in Gravesend.
Crews were called at 12.45pm this afternoon to Dering Way.
Police were also at the scene.
A spokesman said: "Firefighters in breathing apparatus used a hosereel jet and cold cutting equipment to tackle the fire involving a large quantity of building material and rubbish.
"Local residents are asked to keep their doors and windows closed as a precaution, due to the large smoke plume."
Crews are understood to have left the scene just before 4pm.
