A teenager has a brighter future and is back in school after six months without lessons.

Dad-of-two Damien Edgar of Canal Road, Gravesend, had grown increasingly desperate since taking custody of his children Jaren, 15, Janiya, 12, in May this year.

Dad Damien Edgar was growing concerned that no school place would be found for son Jaren

While a place at Thamesview School in Gravesend had been found for his daughter, there had been no place found for Jaren, who has ADHD and autism.

But after Mr Edgar contacted Kent Online to highlight his situation, a meeting was arranged and Jaren started at Thamesview last week.

"We found out last Tuesday," said Mr Edgar, who works as an IT technical support officer. "The article came out and then they called me and chased the school.

"Monday afternoon the school called me for a meeting and then after the meeting offered Jaren a position for Year 11.

"I'm pleased that he's going to get settled and won't have to go up and down, but I was a bit upset with him being put in Year 11 - I don't know if he will get to do English and Maths GCSEs."

Jaren Edgar has now started school at Thamesview

He said Jaren was already happier having found a new routine. He had been staying with relatives during the week while waiting for a school place, so there was someone to care for him during the day.

"The first day he was nervous as hell but he's slowly getting back into the swing of things," he said. "He's happy now that he's at home with us and a bit more settled.

"I'm a bit less stressed now. I don't have to keep calling around, although I'll have to think about sixth form college.

"I think we would be in the same position if it hadn't been for the article."
