Secret of why this garage has kept its customers

It says a lot when customers stay with you for more than 30 years, but that’s what the service from Claremont Motor Engineers Dartford has achieved.

The firm’s secret comes from offering a personalised motor vehicle, MOT testing and mechanical electrical repairs and air conditioning service which is carried out in the shortest possible time. It also gives staff an annual training update on the latest vehicle technology.

The company in Watling Street, which was established in 1967, has embraced new equipment where customers can book appointments online.

Having input a massive amount of information, instant pricing on servicing, MOT and spare parts – all of which are necessary with the Longlife service system on new cars – are available at a click of a button. The firm also offers a free collection and delivery service.

Manager Luke Briggs said: “We are also planning on investing in main dealer level diagnostic equipment so we can cover all new software updates and car programming that currently can only be done at the main dealer, at a high price.

“This would mean we can offer customers everything a main dealer can at a lower cost and more convenient time.”

Up to 80 per cent of waste in the workshop is recycled with discarded oil going for purifying and into home heating products. Tyres are shredded to ultimately become floor underlay.

The company also carries out an apprenticeship scheme with North West Kent College in Gravesend. Up to three apprentices are being trained at any one time making sure they get hands-on practical knowledge of car maintenance and repair services and involvement with customers.

The next big project is a total upgrading of the waiting room which will be equipped with wi-fi, a children’s play area and refreshments.
