Slow setting concrete blamed for delayed roadworks in Gravesend

Southern Water have apologised for delays to completing roadworks at a busy town centre junction, saying cold weather has slowed the setting of concrete.

Temporary traffic lights have been in place at the junction of Milton Road and Ordnance Road in Gravesend since Friday January 18, causing lengthy delays at peak times.

But there's light at the end of the tunnel for drivers fed up with queuing at the lights, with works due to be finished by Monday evening, January 28.

Southern Water spokesman Simon Fluendy said: "Our team is completing a complex road reinstatement at the junction of Milton Road and Ordnance Road in Gravesend following a burst water main which has been repaired.

"Due to the nature of the road surface, repairs must be completed in stages and we hope to finish no later than Monday evening. The cold damp weather is slowing the setting of the concrete which is why this is taking longer than usual.

"We are working as quickly as possible and will fully open the road as soon as it is safe to do so. We are sorry for the inconvenience this is causing and would like to thank residents and road users for their patience."
