More than £55,000 was raised at a Great Gatsby-themed charity ball.
More than 150 people attended the Orange Ball to raise money for Northfleet-based hospice charity ellenor. It was held at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in London’s Park Lane.
The hospice, which serves north and west Kent and Bexley, provides care to 2,500 people facing terminal illness every year and needs to raise £7 million annually to make that possible.
Chief executive Claire Cardy said: “We all had a fantastic evening and the feedback has been exceptional. We would like to thank all our patrons, guests and everyone who has supported us.
“Monies raised could fund our new children’s team clinical lead role.”
Guests were welcomed by TV’s Phil Spencer and Good Morning Britain co-presenter and former Strictly Come Dancing star Charlotte Hawkins, who are both patrons of the charity.
Former England cricket captain Chris Cowdrey acted as auctioneer on the night and took bids on items such as a week’s stay for eight people in the French Alps.
The total yesterday stood at £55,753 with more still coming in.
Phil Spencer has also been visiting youngsters at ellenor’s day centre.
The Location, Location, Location star was at the site in East Hill Drive, Dartford, from where the children’s hospice at home service is run, along with children’s clubs and therapies.
He said: “Visiting the children and families was a fantastic opportunity to see and hear first-hand about the invaluable work ellenor does to support the local community.
“The dedicated children’s team play a hugely important role helping families through one of life’s most difficult journeys.
"I am delighted to support them and hope I will be able to assist the caring and committed staff to raise awareness of their invaluable work.”
