Gravesend town centre hit by repeat power cuts

Two power cuts in a week have left residents living on tenterhooks, as engineers still wait to fix a damaged cable.

Hundreds of properties in Gravesend were left without power after a cable was damaged on Tuesday morning, and many, including Gravesham Council, were affected until supplies were restored later that afternoon.

UK Power Networks were on the scene

But more than 439 customers were again left without power on Thursday when a generator brought in to provide a temporary power supply failed; and some fear further power cuts are to come.

A spokesperson for UK Power Networks said: "Following third party damage to an underground electricity cable on Monday, we have made a request to Kent County Council for a road closure in Stone Street so that we can repair the damaged cable as quickly as possible.

"In the meantime we have arranged for a generator to serve those customers affected.

"We would like to apologise to customers whose electricity supply was interrupted yesterday from 4.07pm until 7.50pm, this was due to a temporary problem with the generator."
