A woman was injured and a man is in police custody after two car accidents in the space of an hour in a road becoming notorious for traffic collisions.

Police and ambulance crews were called to London Road, Northfleet at 1.40am following a collision between two cars, with a woman suffering minor injuries.

At around 2.40am, another car collided into a police vehicle parked at the scene.

A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst over the legal alcohol limit and he remains in police custody.

It's the latest in an increasingly long line of traffic collisions in the road, with three vehicles having collided near a Nisa Local shop there at around 4.50pm on Thursday, October 20.

A petition with almost 1,000 signatures calling for more safety measures in the road will go before Gravesham council before Christmas.

It was set up by Pakize Guvenc following the death of 88-year-old Sifa Rifat, who died after being hit by a blue Audi A6 outside her sheltered housing home, Cleveland House, in London Road, on Monday, May 30.

Damian Demczuk has appeared in court in connection to the incident and is charged with two offences - driving without due care and while unfit through drugs, and secondly, causing death while driving a vehicle unlicensed or uninsured.

Demczuk, 27, of Quarry Hill in Grays, Essex, will next appear at Maidstone Crown Court on December 6.
