It can be tough being a sole trader, but Sarah Cheshire, owner of Forget-me- not

Vintage & Crafts has become more than an entrepreneur. For the past three

years her business has become a local community hub enjoying a regular

customer base.

People love to browse through an array of items form a different era and Sarah

says the business is unique to Gravesend offering an amazing variety of vintage

collectables and homewares as well as a leaning towards specialising in nautical

and local history.

Everything in the shop is very nostalgic which in turn keeps

memories alive for all generations

Based at 65 High Street, Gravesend, the shop hosts special events and teaches

regular arts, crafts, sewing and crochet to adults and children during weekdays,

weekends, school holidays and evenings.

She said: “As we host the bimonthly Gravesend Vintage fair in the Borough

Market which we ensure is a free public event with free entertainment, we feel

that we have generated both a financial and community gain for the market and

town through the extensive publicity that we have created through our fairs.

“We’ve had fantastic public feedback and support and in turn now have a really

strong collaboration with the regular traders and the council.”

Even Glen Miller’s nephew paid a visit. Customers are not slow in coming

forward and one, Denice Stannard echoes the views of many others and said:

“This is a truly amazing shop that not only has beautiful items but the friendliest

staff I've ever visited.

“Prices are very reasonable and it’s a great place to meet and learn a new skill

and Sarah Cheshire’s shop goes out of its way to welcome customers. This is

truly a gem in Gravesend High Street”
