Kent Police warning after 13 cars broken into in Gravesend

A spate of break-ins targeting cars are being investigated by police.
Thirteen vehicles have been broken into since June 5 in areas including Leigh Road, Cirrus Crescent, Royal Pier Road, Nursery Grove, Salisbury Road, Ridgeway Avenue, and Campbell Road in Gravesend, as well as Northfleet, Meopham and Vigo.
Kent Police Inspector Allen Searle of Gravesham Community Safety Unit said: “In many of these reports of thefts, cash or satellite navigation devices are the items stolen from cars.
“The amount of cash doesn’t have to be large to be enticing to thieves.
“We ask that people don’t leave items on display in their vehicles – even loose change – as some thieves tend to be opportunists and will steal if they can see there is something in the car for them to steal. Don’t give them the chance to window-shop your car.
“We recommend removing any valuable items from your car completely.
“If possible, try to park your vehicle in a secure car park or garage, or in a well-lit location, and make sure your vehicle is locked before leaving it unattended.”
If you witness any suspicious activity around your vehicle or have any information about thefts in your area, contact police on 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress.
