The fate of a building torn apart by flames is yet to be decided.

Shellen Security on the Northfleet Industrial Estate caught light at 4am on January 9 and the business – which designs, makes and installs security doors – was destroyed.

About 50 firefighters were called out at its height, and the following day fire crews said the building would probably have to be demolished.

Dartford council has jurisdiction over the area and Building Control has been out to investigate.

A spokeswoman for the council said: “The building hasn’t been condemned – we have served a Dangerous Structures Notice on it which means that it needs to be made safe. It is up to the owners and insurers to carry out any works.”

Inside the warehouse, almost everything was destroyed, including two cars.

However the business’s reputation is still standing strong after its speciality fire doors saved an office within the building.

Investigations are continuing to find out how the blaze started, but a Kent Fire and Rescue Service watch manager said at the time he was not confident they would ever discover the cause as there were a number of heat and electrical sources in the building.
