THE London-bound carriageway of the A2 was closed this afternoon following a collision involving an articulated lorry and a car which in which a woman suffered serious head and chest injuries.

A Kent Air Ambulance crew was called to the incident which happened at about 12.50pm at the Cobham junction near Gravesend. The woman's condition is not yet known.

Five of the six lanes were closed for some four-and-a-half hours.
