Work is set to begin next month on almost 600 new homes.

Residents in Northfleet have been told to expect traffic as part of Crete Hall Road will be shut for up to four weeks due to a partial demolition at the WT Henley building.

It comes as plans to build 598 homes and a new primary school at the Northfleet Embankment East site have been approved.

The road will be shut from Monday, May 20.

Keepmoat Homes is the company behind the building plans.

In a letter to residents, construction manager for Keepmoat, Scott Wilson wrote: "During the works, we aim to minimise any potential disruption to the community and are working in conjunction with Kent County Council's Highways department.

"There is a Traffic Management Plan in place to ensure residents can access the surrounding area during this closure."

Spokesman for Keepmoat Ben Ormsby added: "Keepmoat Homes has planning permission to build new homes in Northfleet, on the banks of the River Thames.

“This new development will include 374 private homes made up of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses and 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, alongside 224 affordable homes including 38 homes for affordable rent.

“We currently expect to start work on the site in May 2019 with the first residents able to move in June 2020.”
