Hundreds of young people set to attended anti hate-crime festival.

‘One Night’ is an outdoor event that will be held tomorrow at the Fort Gardens, Milton Place, Gravesend.

The mini-festival is being held to highlight the importance of saying no to hate crime, to youngsters.

DJ Culture, who has just appeared at London’s Wireless Festival, with the likes of Stormzy, Giggs and Drake, will be the headline act of the night.

The ‘Grand’, a youth team in Gravesend, worked with North Kent Police to organize the festival and their acts.

The event is exclusively for people aged 11-19 years, and will have DJ’s and local young performers based around the ‘Say No To Hate Crime’ theme.

Youth worker manager, Jackie Coupar, from the Grand Healthy Living Centre, wanted to create positive relationships in the borough.

She said: “At a time when we are seeing reports of increased violence and youth crime in London and other parts of the UK, we’re working even harder with young people the police and schools to foster positive relationships in the borough.

“Gravesham has always been a place of tolerance and acceptance.

“We’re working hard to ensure that the next generation understand what hate crime is and how, if they experience it, to tackle it.

“Hate crime spans all kinds of areas from race and religion to sexuality and gender and more.

“Many adults don’t know about the full scale that hate crime can include, so we need to ensure our young people do and that tolerance and understanding are key and are celebrated.”

The event runs from 5pm-7pm and any young person who wants to attend will need to obtain a wristband from their school for a £1 donation, which goes to Gravesham’s free youth counseling service Active Listening.
